No connections. No shortcuts. Just a team that refuses to wait for permission.
This is a live, honest journal of what it takes to build an independent film production company from zero — the constraints, the setbacks, the breakthroughs.

Every project we've put our name on.
A family drama about identity, memory, and the weight of what we pass on.
Heritage is MicroCrew's first production — a proof of concept for a feature film.
Heritage is a quiet family drama set almost entirely inside one Malaysian-Chinese family home, over the final stretch of a dying patriarch's life and his funeral. Underneath, it's about the unequal weight of caregiving, the things that go unsaid in a family, and what actually gets inherited when a parent dies — not money, but duty, silence, and old wounds.
Based on true events and inspired by the director's own family, the film holds two real outcomes in the same frame — a permanent fracture and a reunion. It is an intimate, autobiographical story told through details that are unmistakably Malaysian-Chinese.
"A story about family, responsibility, and the weight of love." — Fong Ky Lee, Director
Fong Ky Lee is the director and writer of Heritage — a story drawn from her own family's history. MicroCrew brought Ky Lee on board for her passion and her instinct for authentic storytelling. Beyond directing, she has become a core part of the team, helping with fundraising and production.
Pravindraj serves as Executive Producer on Heritage. As Founder and CEO of MicroCrew, he is responsible for overall planning, budget management, fundraising, and ensuring the production has everything it needs to move forward.
Kai Yan serves as Executive Producer on Heritage. As Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer, he ensures the film — and the company behind it — is positioned consistently with MicroCrew's long-term vision.
We didn't come from the industry. We're building our way into it.
Pravind started MicroCrew with a conviction that great stories don't require industry connections — they require the right people and the refusal to quit. As Founder and CEO, he drives the overall vision, strategy, fundraising, and daily operations of the company. Heritage is his first major proof that the vision is real.
Kai Yan co-founded MicroCrew and is responsible for how the company presents itself to the world. As Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer, he shapes the brand identity, strategic direction, and the story MicroCrew tells about itself. His work is the reason you're reading this.
MicroCrew Productions didn't start with a studio deal, an investor, or a mentor in the industry. It started with a question: what happens if we just start anyway?
We are an independent film production company based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. But what we're building reaches far beyond where we're based. Because the problem we're trying to solve isn't a Malaysian problem — it's a global one.
Somewhere right now there is a director who has never been given a camera. An actor who has never been given a script. A writer whose stories have never been produced. Not because they lack talent — but because nobody gave them the door to walk through. MicroCrew exists to be that door.
Our mission is to find undiscovered creative talent — directors, actors, writers, cinematographers, storytellers of every kind — and give them their first real opportunity. Not as a charity. As a genuine belief that the best stories in the world are still untold, and the people who need to tell them just haven't had their chance yet.
Heritage is the first proof of that. Fong Ky Lee is a director who had the vision and the craft but needed a production company willing to back her. MicroCrew was that company. And Heritage is what happened when we said yes.
We are starting from Kuala Lumpur. But we are building for everywhere. If you have a story that needs to be told, or you know someone who does — we want to hear it.
"Never give up. Take it slow. You have time."
